Interesting Podcast. I think we can only view policing within the framework of an evolving society and the fact that albeit problematic, society will in due course create and mould institutions that reflect its views and ease its passage to what it believes is its ultimate fulfilment . Perhaps there has been a tendency to view the police as standing outside and possibly above this framework, which leads to expectations that it will in some way act as a corrective, or at least a moderating influence on the more extreme progressive views, this is wishful thinking. The police are now fully integrated into and part of the brave new world we are busy creating for ourselves.

I have to admit I might have got it a bit wrong about marching in step on the road to a brave new world.
